Third Party Diversity
Nordstrom extended its diversity related policies to its suppliers and other
people involved with the company. The objective was to involve different
sections of society in the company's functioning through various initiatives.

Customer Diversity
Nordstrom believed that genuine inclusiveness must be reflected in all
aspects of the company's business, including advertisements. The company
believed that reaching out to diverse communities started with advertising.
Since 1991, Nordstrom had featured models with disabilities in its
advertisements and catalogs. Reportedly, at least one-third of Nordstrom's
advertisements featured models of color and models with disabilities.

Diversity Eyewash?
In spite of Nordstrom's diversity initiatives and the honors it
received from minority and disability rights organizations, the
company did not escape criticism. Over the years, Nordstrom became
involved in a few controversies regarding discrimination against
employees on grounds of disability.
In the early 2000s, two female employees charged Nordstrom with
disability discrimination. In December 2003, Sharon Hogan (Hogan),
who had been employed at Nordstrom since 1991, met with an
