Voice search has been dominating the global search landscape with reportedly 20% of all searches on mobile devices being made using the technology. Smartphone-based voice assistants such as Alexa, Google Assistant, and Siri have revolutionized the search experiences allowing users to speak into their devices instead of typing keywords into a search query to generate results.

The rise of voice search technology is one of the significant developments impacting the digital marketing landscape. The role of smart digital assistants is no longer confined to home automation; they are influencing businesses as well by driving the concept of hands-free, voice-based searches. This new technology has made a considerable impact on search trends and search engine optimization (SEO) and will be the key to successful brands in the future. It is predicted that about 50% of all online searches will be made through voice search by 2020.

It is high time businesses incorporated voice search technology into their digital marketing plans and optimized their interfaces, platforms, and websites in order to stay ahead of the competition. Marketers must develop new ways to tailor their SEO strategies to optimize voice search and reevaluate and adapt keywords used in their content to voice search as it will help a website rank higher on search engines.

With the explosion of smartphone technology, it is certain that voice search will be the next big disruptive technology in digital marketing.
