Carrefour's Success and Tesco's Woes in Taiwan
During the late 1980s, Carrefour decided to enter Asia and
considered several markets like Hong Kong, Malaysia, and Thailand for its Asian
foray. Carrefour found Hong Kong and Singapore too small for its planned scale
of operations. South Korea was not ideal then due to its lower per capita GNP
compared to places like Singapore and Hong Kong.
