Since the launch of innovation initiatives in 2000, Wipro had emerged as one of the strongest players in the Information Technology (IT) industry. The company offered a comprehensive portfolio of products based on innovative solutions.

Innovation was a prerequisite at Wipro since it believed that this was essential to achieve growth and competitive advantage. It was one of the values in Wipro's promise statement that said, "With utmost respect to human values, we promise to serve our customers with integrity through innovative, value for money solutions, by applying thought day after day."6
