Chapter Summary

Tourism is a growing industry in many parts of the world. The tourism industry is divided into three categories namely, transportation, accommodation, and tour operators. The tourism industry of a country is dependent on the country's tradition and culture, natural resources and scenic beauty, its financial and political status, the status of its economy, its religious inclinations and its architectural beauty and constructions.

Tourists can be divided based on their socio-economic status, geographic differences, demographics, and psychographics. The marketing mix elements of tourism industry help in creating an image of the tourist destination, building awareness of the services. India can attract many tourists because of its rich culture and heritage.

Foreigners are attracted to the culture, ayurveda, pleasant and friendly people, art and architecture of the country. Further, the historical importance of monuments like the Taj Mahal, the Lotus Temple, etc. and the temples of the south, have equally attracted the tourists. India should concentrate on developing domestic tourism too.
