On October 10, 2014, the Norwegian Nobel Committee announced that the Nobel Peace Prize for the year 2014 was being awarded jointly to Indian child rights activist Kailash Satyarthi (Satyarthi) and Pakistani child rights activist Malala Yousufzai.
