Abstract:

The case study examines in detail the causes for the break up of the Kinetic Honda joint venture. The case also throws light on the post break-up strategies of the two companies. The case is so developed as to give students an insight into the causes that led to Kinetic and Honda parting ways. It gives them an idea of the complexities involved in managing a joint venture and of the strategic implications of a 'not-so-good' relationship between partners. At the end of the case-discussion, the students should have grasped the following issues: The nature of problems faced by the KHML joint venture. The factors that resulted in the break-up of Kinetic and Honda Motors. The strategic initiatives taken by the Kinetic group to stage a comeback.
