Shenzhen-based ZTE traced its origins to 1985 when it was established as Shenzhen Zhongxing Semiconductor by Hou Weigui (Hou). The company was originally a part of a joint venture between the two state-owned enterprises in aerospace in China – China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) and China Aerospace Science and Industry Corporation (CASIC). In March 1993, Zhongxing Semiconductor was renamed Zhongxing New Telecommunications Equipment Co., Ltd (ZTE).
