Launched in 2011, Snapchat, originally called Picaboo, was a messaging and social media app that allowed users to send pictures that almost instantly disappeared to each other. It began humbly as a class project by former Stanford University students Reggie Brown (Brown), Robert Murphy (Murphy), and Evan Spiegel (Spiegel). Brown later left (and sued) the company ; Murphy became Chief Technology Officer (CTO); and Spiegel took charge as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). In 2012, Picaboo was renamed as Snapchat when the app was rebranded and added to the Google Play for Android users.
