INTRODUCTION |
|
Alice Min Soo Chun (Chun), a design and architecture professor in New York, founded “Solight Design” in 2010 with the primary objective of providing a sustainable and environmental-friendly solution to end the woes of people suffering in darkness. The enterprise was involved in delivering affordable solar lighting and power solutions to the world, with design as the key aspect. Chun was moved by the deplorable conditions of the people who lacked electricity, especially the poor and the disaster stricken. She also wanted to work towards developing a clean and healthy environment for people to live in, as the increased dependence on fossil fuels for energy had led to a rise in the number of diseases like asthma. So, she wanted to provide innovative solar lighting solutions to bring people out of darkness while also contributing towards a positive change in the energy consumption patterns of the world. With these two objectives in mind, Chun invented an innovative, folding solar lantern called the “SolarPuff”. She designed the product especially for people afflicted by natural and man-made disasters..”
