The idea of “WE Charity” came about after the Kielburgers read about the death of Iqbal Masih, a 12-year-old child laborer in Pakistan. WE Charity began operations on the Kielburger’s kitchen table with a fax machine and a computer. The charity made posters on child labor to make Canadians more aware of this practice in third world countries. WE Charity started operations on the ground, rescuing children from factories by working with local groups. However, the founding team soon realized that these efforts were futile as the rescued children more often than not returned to bonded labor since their parents were simply not able to feed them. .. |
