Dell's Claim and its Credibility

Dell achieved the carbon neutrality status mostly by purchasing renewable energy to the tune of 645 million KWh as of August 2009 (Refer to Table III for a summary of Dell's approach to addressing different types of emissions to achieve carbon neutrality), which it accounted as offsetting the carbon emissions from energy usage in its buildings.

To offset the remaining emissions from usage of owned vehicles, energy production (generators), and employee business travel, it purchased carbon credits. At the same time, it did not consider the emissions from suppliers' processes and products usage by the customers in its claim of carbon neutrality...
