Abstract:
Steven Spielberg, one of the world's most talented movie directors, is also
considered to be one of the most influential men in Hollywood. Spielberg has
numerous critically acclaimed and commercially successful movies to his name, as
producer, director and writer. His name virtually guarantees a project's
success.
Spielberg, David Geffen, who single- handedly revolutionised the music industry
and Jeffrey Katzenberg, who turned around Disney, have come together to start
DreamWorks. In an industry that is largely dominated by the big established
studios such as Warner Bros, Universal Studios and Columbia Pictures, DreamWorks
aims at becoming the 'artists' studio'.
|
|
Despite all its successes since its inception, major concerns
remain. Is DreamWorks too dependent on Spielberg? Is it too focused on
creativity at the expense of a strong commercial focus?
