Tesco’s origins can be traced back to the year 1919 , when Jack Cohen started selling groceries in the East end of London.Later, in 1924, Cohen associated with a tea merchant T E Stockwell.This gave rise to the brand name Tesco, derived by combining the names of both the merchants, who had been selling groceries independently. The first Tesco retail grocery store was opened in the year 1929, and Tesco started operating as a private limited company in the year 1932. In the year 1947, Tesco Stores (Holdings) Limited floated its stock in the stock market at a price of 25pence. ..
