Introduction

Summers in India are extremely warm and sunny, with maximum temperatures hovering around 40oC (104o F) in most parts of the country. To withstand the sizzling temperatures, many Indians rely on traditional drinks like coconut water, buttermilk, and other drinks made of local spices sold by numerous local companies. One of the most popular drinks that was until recently highly in demand during summers was ‘Rooh Afza’, a scarlet-hued refresher or Sharbat made by a century old India-based traditional Health and Wellness company Hamdard Laboratories (Hamdard).
