Gits was founded in 1963 by two close friends – H. Z. Gilani (Gilani) and A. K. Tejani (Tejani). Gilani was a freedom fighter, a former journalist and co-founder of the Gujarati business newspaper 'Vyapar'. Tejani was a small businessman who had sold savory items in Bengaluru, India, and was well known as 'Chipswala'. Later, Tejani had worked at 'Vyapar' as a freelance journalist.
