As on March 31, 2019, SCL was the third largest cement group in terms of cement capacity in India. The company was one of the top 50 companies in India in terms of market capitalization. SCL was founded in Ajmer, Rajasthan, in 1979 by the Bangur family based in Kolkata, West Bengal. In 1984, it became a public listed company. SCL reported around a 21% growth in total income in the financial year ended March 31, 2019, from Rs. 105.49 billion in FY17-18 to Rs. 128.04 billion in FY18-19. However, total expenses also increased by 32% between FY17-18 and FY18-19.
