Background

In May 2008, Miguel McKelvey (McKelvey) and Neumann started GreenDesk, an eco-friendly co-working space in Brooklyn, New York, USA. But in 2010, they sold the business and started WeWork with its first location in New York's SoHo district with partial funding from Manhattan real estate developer Joel Schreiber, who purchased a 33% interest in the company for $15 million.

WeWork launched WeWork Labs (a member company) in New York in April 2011.
