About Dallas Mavericks
The Mavericks franchise, a professional basketball team competing in the NBA and a member of the Western Conference, was founded in 1980 by Dallas businessman Donald Carter. The team’s name, chosen by fans, came from the famous American Western television series ‘Maverick’, which was aired on television between 1957 and 1962. Initially, Mavericks played their home games at Reunion Arena, but in 2001, they began playing at the American Airlines Center . Throughout their 40-year history, the Mavericks won 4 division titles (1987, 2007, 2010, and 2021), two conference titles (2006 and 2011), and an NBA Championship against the Miami Heat in 2011. Dirk Nowitzki was the biggest and most popular player in the history of the franchise. Based in Dallas, the team was one of the 3 NBA teams in Texas, the other two being San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets..
