From Googler to Googler
In 2023, US-based tech giant Google LLC (Google) announced that over 6,000 employees had volunteered to be a part of the company’s peer-to-peer training program called Googler-to-Googler (G2G). Under this volunteer network program, Google employees across the world dedicated their time and effort to developing and teaching their peers new skills.
The idea for the G2G program came up in 2007, when Google’s team in Ireland was looking at ways to train hundreds of new hires with just a few trainers. The company decided to ask more internal people to dedicate a portion of their time to teaching and training the new hires. The idea clicked; existing employees volunteered to train the newly hired and the program became successful with the trainees going on to perform well in their respective jobs. Later, the program spread across all of Google’s offices.
