Background
Microsoft, a multinational technology company with headquarters in Redmond, Washington, US, was incorporated on April 4, 1975, by Bill Gates and Paul Allen. Microsoft had more than 140,000 employees working around the world. It employed a stack ranking system for performance appraisal. Employees were evaluated twice a year by their supervisors who were also subjected to ranking.
