Introduction

The 3M Company (3M), a Minnesota, USA based corporation, had a presence in four business segments – Safety and Industrial; Transportation and Electronics; Health Care; and Consumer, as of 2020.

As of 2020, 3M had corporate operations in 70 countries and sales in 200. It had close to 96,163 employees in 2019. The company had revenue of $32.1 billion in 2019. It generated revenue by sales of close to 60,000 products across its four business segments.

Operating in varied markets required the company to have different types of distribution channels, with unique and varied risk profiles. Certain 3M products involved the company operating close to government markets like healthcare, infrastructure, health and safety. These markets had high levels of corruption risk, creating a variety of compliance risks as well. All this led to 3M designing a comprehensive code of conduct to be followed by its management, employees, as well as third party associates.
