In the first week of June 2015, Luca Fichera (Luca), Executive Vice-President (Supply Chain) of Nestlé India Limited (Nestlé), and his team of supply chain executives were facing the daunting task of temporarily halting the manufacture, distribution, and sales of Nestlé’s popular instant noodles, Maggi (Maggi). The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) had issued an order on June 5, 2015, asking Nestlé to recall nine variants of Maggi from the Indian market. This forced Nestlé to immediately establish a reverse supply chain for the recall. Nestlé initially estimated that 27,420 tons of Maggie had to be recalled.
