The year 2020 was marked by a pandemic that affected the entire world. The Coronavirus (COVID-19) spread to almost every country across the globe. There were global and domestic lockdowns restraining cross border movement to curb the spread of the virus.
The lockdown in India disrupted the supply chain of many industries. But people were affected most by the disruption of the food supply chain. BigBasket, one of India’s online grocery stores, also had to face this crisis initially. But it soon emerged out of it with efficient crisis management initiatives. It saw a 900% surge in orders within a span of one month. The company partnered with cab aggregators, restaurant associations, and other retailers to solve its manpower requirements. After the initial glitches, it also managed to maintain enough stock to fulfill the rising number of orders, as it claimed to have a strong supply chain built on trustworthy relationships with farmers, mills, and FMCG companies.
