Introduction
In October 2020, the Government of India (GoI) announced that its National Public Procurement Portal (NPPP) – called Government e-Marketplace (GeM) – was being integrated with its Central Public Procurement Portal (CPPP) . It added that with the ongoing integration of GeM with the Indian Railway Electronic Procurement System and the Defence Public Procurement Portal, the work toward creating a ‘Unified Procurement System’ for India would be almost complete. The consolidation of the government’s entire e-procurement into a single platform was expected to further improve the buying and selling processes, apart from leading to economies of scale, better price discovery, and sharing of best practices..
