Introduction
In July 2020, the European Investment Bank (EIB) provided a US$12.5 million loan to Fenix International (Fenix), a US-based next generation solar energy company, to support the installation of 240,000 off-grid solar home systems (SHSs) in Uganda. Fenix, a fully-owned subsidiary of the French group ENGIE, offered off-grid solar systems to customers in East African nations, primarily in Uganda.
