Shalya’s Decisions

Shalya had not seen his nephews for many years as they had been in exile. He was, however, aware of the extreme difficulties that they had faced during that time. After agreeing to support the Kauravas, Shalya proceeded to Upaplavya, the capital of the Matsya kingdom ruled by Virata, where the Pandavas were camping and planning their strategy for the Mahabharata War. After exchanging courtesies as per protocol and enquiring about their welfare, Shalya narrated the events related to Duryodhana’s hospitality and his offer. Yudhishthira stated, “O King! You performed a good deed, when you are happy in your own soul. O brave one! You must observe the pledge that you have given to Duryodhana.”.
