Introduction
The end of 2020 found the top management of Arkansas-based meat processing company Tyson Foods Inc. (Tyson Foods) facing the onerous task of handling the problems posed by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic while trying to rebuild its reputation tarnished by social criticism and scrutiny from regulators regarding its business practices during the pandemic.
In November 2020, American financial and business news website Business Insider reported that John H Tyson, Chairman of Tyson Foods, had increased his personal wealth by US$600 million to US$2.2 billion since April 2020. While his personal wealth rose, Tyson Foods also attracted social criticism as an estimated 11,000 workers at its meat processing plants across the US were reported to have been infected by COVID-19.
