On June 19, 2019, Chinese e commerce giant Jingdong.com Inc. (JD.com) announced that during its ‘6.18 Anniversary Sale’ – that lasted for the first 18 days of June every year – it had recorded a total sales transaction volume of US$29.2 billion. This was an increase of 27% over the same period of 2018. The company attributed the rise in sales to the launch of new high-quality products and increased consumption of products from low-tier cities in China.
Richard Liu (Liu) (also known as Qiangdong Liu), CEO and founder of JD.com, started the company in 1998 in Beijing as a store selling magneto-optical products.
