Background
Flipkart was founded in 2007 by former Amazon executives Sachin Bansal (Sachin) and Binny. Sachin and Binny had both worked at Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Bengaluru in the southern Indian state of Karnataka before teaming up to start an e-commerce site with an investment of about US$6,000 saved from their earnings at AWS. The company, which they called Flipkart, operated exclusively in India and was headquartered in Bengaluru. Initially, Flipkart started selling books. Soon, the company grew bigger and ventured into selling other products such as electronic goods, e-books, stationery supplies, and fashion and lifestyle products and grew into a retail platform for small and large businesses to sell their products.
