Hindustan Machine Tools Pvt Ltd. was established in 1953 by the Government of India (GOI). It was renamed HMT Limited on August 31, 1978. The company primarily specialized in manufacturing watches, tractors, printing machinery, metal forming presses, die-casting and plastic processing machinery, Computer Numerical Control (CNC) systems , and bearings. Its machine tools were manufactured at plants located in Bengaluru, Pinjore (Haryana), Hyderabad (Telangana), Ajmer (Rajasthan), and Kalamassery (Kerala). At one point of time, HMT was very successful and had even sparked the growth of the indigenous machine tool industry around Bengaluru.
