Background Note
TECNO Telecom Limited (TTL), the parent company of TECNO, was established in 2006 by entrepreneur Zhu Zhaojiang (Zhaojiang). Zhaojiang was the overseas sales director of Ningbo Bird Co. Ltd . He came to Shenzhen along with three other former colleagues from Ningbo Bird and established Celltel Communications Co., Ltd (Celltel). At the end of 2006, Zhaojiang left Celltel to start TTL, which later changed its name to Transsion Holdings with TECNO serving as one of its subsidiaries. Headquartered in Hong Kong, Transsion was engaged in the development, manufacture, sales, and service of mobile communications products. The company’s first mobile phone, the TECNO T201, was launched in August 2006. In 2007, Transsion established its first factory in Shenzhen and launched a second mobile brand Itel.
