Since its inception in 1994, US-based online retailer Amazon.com, Inc. (Amazon) had been emphasizing creation of a better online retail experience for customers through competitive pricing, convenience, and sophisticated information search and by offering various products such as electronics, toys and games, sporting goods, jewelry, apparel, and many more. In 2017, it became the US’s leading e-retailer, achieving net sales of US$178 billion. As of 2017, Amazon had never distributed dividends to its shareholders. Over the years, the company expanded its presence to more than 100 countries. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Amazon observed a high demand in its cloud computing and e-commerce business. As of 2022, its market capitalization had reached US$ 1.4 trillion. In 2023, the company became the largest online retailer in the world.
