Facebook started hiring content moderators on a large scale around 2007 when millions of users were joining the social network every month and there were increasing instances of nude photos being posted by users. Facebook then had to reach a settlement with Andrew Cuomo, New York’s attorney general in 2007, to remove the pornographic posts raised by users within 24 hours. This led to Facebook’s existing employees becoming overwhelmed by the volume of work.
