INTRODUCTION |
|
M-KOPA Solar, an East Africa-based affordable off-grid solar power provider, won the Zayed Future Energy Prize in January 2015, to become the first company with headquarters in Sub-Saharan Africa to win the prestigious award. The prize, the world’s leading renewable energy and sustainability award, was presented during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability
Week in January 2015 in recognition of the firm’s significant contributions to the future of renewable energy and sustainability.
Speaking on the achievement, Jesse Moore (Moore), Co-founder and Managing Director, M-KOPA Solar, said, “We are honored to win the Zayed Future Energy Prize. The prize brings global attention to M-KOPA Solar’s business model, which has brought clean, affordable solar power to 150,000 homes in East Africa in less than three years. We believe that the ‘wireless energy’ revolution is just beginning and that M-KOPA Solar will soon power millions living off the grid.”
