Introduction

As of May 2020, JioMart, the e-commerce venture of India-based Reliance Retail Limited, had launched its JioMart service in 200 cities across the country. Reliance Retail, the retail arm of the India-based conglomerate Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), ran India’s largest chain of neighborhood supermarket stores and consumer electronics stores. It was also the top wholesale supplier to the country’s small shopkeepers. Reliance launched its online grocery shopping portal JioMart in India in December 2019 and the portal picked up during the nationwide lockdown imposed to control the COVID-19 outbreak in the country. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, online grocers saw explosive demand as people preferred to shop for their groceries digitally. Mukesh Dhirubhai Ambani (Mukesh), chairman and managing director of RIL, said the introduction of a more remote way of ordering food would help people who were staying at home amid the pandemic and preferred to shop for their groceries digitally. ..
