Background
In January 2007 the iPhone was launched under the iconic leadership of Steve Jobs, co-founder and CEO of Apple Inc. It took two and a half years to develop the iPhone with $150 million. The iPhone was developed under a highly secretive project called “Project Purple” and even its developers weren’t fully aware of the outcome until its final stage. To build the iPhone, a unique combination of in-house product design capabilities and outsourced manufacturing was used. Its manufacturing was done at Hon Hai’s precision-based factory in Taiwan.
By 2007, Apple was known for its unique style, simplicity, and user friendliness. Even before the launch of the iPhone, Apple had built its own ecosystem. The iPhone was launched first in USA and later in Europe in 2007. There was a lot of excitement surrounding the launch, as customers waited in queues overnight before the iPhone’s launch as for the first time they would see a button free touch screen device.
