CREATING AVENUES FOR INCOME GENERATION

 

‘Café Kudumbashree’ a sub brand of Kudumbashree, provided authentic Kerala cuisine prepared by women belonging to different traditions, customs, and cultures from around the entire state. There were more than 1,000 café units functioning in Kerala. All the ‘Café Kudumbashree’ units were operated by the women members of Kudumbashree and the profits were shared among them. ‘Café Kudumbashree’ received the gold medal in 2013 and the silver medal in 2014 at the India International Trade Fair held in New Delhi....

EMPOWERING WOMEN FOR ERADICATING POVERTY

Kudumbashree’s multiple activities helped to uplift a multitude of women entrepreneurs by providing them with avenues to generate income. Girija of Sruthy Catering, Thiruvananthapuram, said, “I became part of a Kudumbashree ayalkootam 18 years ago, and I began catering in 2003. It has really lifted some of our lives. I belonged to Below Poverty Line before joining Kudumbashree, now I belong to Above Poverty Line.” ..
 

THE ROAD AHEAD

In May 2019, Kudumbashree announced that it planned to set up smart agri-villages in each district of Kerala. A tribal village in Ernakulam, Kerala, was projected to be set up as a smart agri-village. The project was expected to increase the income levels of the tribal people through the interlinked farming activities and provide employment opportunities for them. The smart agri-villages utilized sustainable and integrated farming practices for growing crops, vegetables, and a variety of inter-related farm products. It included terrace gardens, poultry farms, organic farming, agro clinics, a bio-pharmacy, rabbitry, and kitchen garden, an outlet with cold storages, farm tourism, bio-gas units, farmer field school, home stay, biodiversity, farmer collectives, and biodiversity conservation...
