Background Note
The founding father of Godrej – Ardeshir – born in 1868, was the eldest child of an affluent Parsi-Zoroastrian family of six children. From a young age, Ardeshir was honest and straightforward. After studying law, he joined a well-known company in Zanzibar, Tanzania, in 1894. However, in one particular case, he found that his own client was the wrong-doer, and as he did not want an innocent person to get punished, he fought the case against his own client in court. After this incident, Ardeshir decided to give up law and return to India, as he thought that his honesty would be a stumbling block in his profession..
