Ubongo developed an out-of-the-box model to educate children from 3 to 14 years of age in Africa. It had partnerships with more than 50 NGOs and companies across Africa to help with funding, educational content creation, media reach, distribution, research, and other core activities needed to fulfill the companies’ mission. Ubongo was largely funded by grants from donors like Ubongo Omidyar Network, US AID, Human Development Innovation Fund, Mulago, and the UK Department for International Development. While most edu-media programs elsewhere were distributed using hardware such as computers or tablets and used open educational resources that were generally not localized, Ubongo flipped that model and provided localized content that could be used on any media- from radio and TV to tablets.... |
