Pang, an electronics engineer, worked in state-owned media companies in China during the 1970s and 1980s before founding StarTimes in Beijing in 1988. StarTimes was a privately-owned broadcasting enterprise, initially producing decoders, mobile phones, TV sets, and digital projectors, before moving on to become a system integrator and platform operator. Within a decade, StarTimes emerged as one of the largest digital TV system integrators, technology providers, network operators, and content providers in China’s broadcasting and television industry.
