Introduction
On July 30, 2014, a public hearing meeting conducted by the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) in Lanjigarh , Odisha , on expanding the capacity of Sesa Sterlite Limited (Sesa Sterlite), global diversified resources major and associate company of UK-based metals and mining major, Vedanta Resources plc (Vedanta Resources), from 1 mpta to 6 mpta, was disrupted by around 300 tribal people, mainly members of the Dongria Kondh community. It was reported that the locals had barged into the meeting venue as they were denied a say at the hearing. According to a protester, "The company and the Odisha government always do like this, keeping the affected tribal people in (the) dark. It suggests, they are doing wrong things against the interests of the tribal people."...
