Abstract Case Intro 1 Case Intro 2 Excerpts

Abstract

In June 2023, technology giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) sacked four its employees and sent one of the key persons in its Resource Management Group (RMG) on leave over their involvement in a Recruitment Scam. TCS is a part of Tata Sons, a group known for its ethics and values, and which had in place policies to ensure that its businesses were conducted in an ethical manner. The bribe-for-jobs scandal, as it came to be known, did not impact TCS financially, as it involved only some employees from the RMG group and staffing agencies. The company said what happened was a breach of its Code of Conduct by a few employees.

The present case study describes the human resources policies and practices, the whistle blower policy, and the role and importance of the RMG department in the recruitment process. It looks at the reasons and facts behind the alleged recruitment scam at TCS and the actions initiated by the management against the errant employees.

The case study can be used to discuss the concepts of recruitment policy, the whistle blower policy, the ethical practices of the employees, and the code of conduct and its importance in ensuring ethical and value-based employee behavior.
