Data University

Airbnb launched the Data University program in the second half of 2016 , its vision being to empower every employee to make data informed decisions by providing data education on how to use its tools and work with core data. As part of the Data University program, the company followed a unique approach in offering data education to employees. Unlike other organizations which typically focused just on their technical employees, Airbnb designed the data education program to be inclusive. The program was made accessible and relevant to all technical and non-technical employees because the company believed that every employee at Airbnb should utilize data in his/her role to make better decisions..

Data University Intensive

To address these challenges, Airbnb created the Data University Intensive (Data U Intensive) program in 2018. The new program launch was an addition to what the Data University offered. The Data U Intensive program was first piloted with the ‘Airbnb Experiences’ team and the ‘Public Policy’ team . The instructors ensured that they used team-specific examples and data to teach the participants. This approach made the classes more relatable and engaging for the attendees of both the Experiences team and the Public Policy team, as the content was directly connected to their daily work and experiences. The curriculum included foundational data courses, SQL, and Superset classes, along with a comprehensive overview of data tables and dashboards tailored to the team’s unique requirements..
