Introduction
In 2023, Zalando SE, a leading online fashion and lifestyle platform in Europe, onboarded seven new brands, taking the total number of Black-owned brands on its Fashion Store to 70. This was part of its commitment to empower underrepresented brands by embracing them as partners, helping them to become a success, amplifying their voices, and driving business for them. The move was a part of the fashion e-tailer’s Diversity and Inclusion (D&I) commitment to provide a more inclusive assortment and be a focal point of collaboration in fashion, bringing together brands, retailers, NGOs, academia, community thought-leaders, and media members to empower underrepresented voices in the fashion industry. According to Robert Gentz (Gentz), Co-CEO of Zalando, “We have made a conscious effort to embrace diversity and inclusion as a fundamental value. We are committed to making meaningful changes and implementing best practices at scale, and in collaboration with our partners. We are convinced that an integrated, holistic approach will accelerate our efforts toward lasting change, both for Zalando and the wider fashion industry. For us, the future is inclusive!”..
