Abstract

In 2016, Mitsui & Co. (Mitsui), a general trading company headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, experienced its first ever consolidated loss. This loss prompted the company to devise a Medium-term Management Plan in 2017 to deal with these challenges. The plan focused on four key initiatives to be achieved by 2020 and those initiatives were based on the two pillars of “work-style innovation” and “digital transformation.” Mitsui wanted a platform for communication and collaboration that could link the information and technologies of its employees working in 66 countries and regions around the world. For the purpose, it used various teamwork and collaboration tools provided by Microsoft and saw positive results in the organization.
