Blue Ventures Journey
Fish was an important source of protein for more than a billion people around the world and was critical for food security for many. Fisheries were also the only source of livelihood for more than 500 million small scale fishers living in developing nations. However, marine ecosystems as well as the livelihoods of coastal communities were facing serious pressure from over fishing and climate change and the problems had only become more severe with time. Harris recognized that conservation was not just about a biologist counting species and that it needed new tools and entrepreneurship, social marketing, and new ways of engaging people. He hung up his diving fins and started focusing on developing business-based solutions to the problem . He aimed to create a world in which people would interact very differently with the ocean. Harris believed that taking less from the sea would give everybody a whole lot more. He was convinced that there was no asset class that would recover faster than fisheries if given time..
