Gaps in Traditional Healthcare
A study carried out by US based non-profit foundation Kaiser Family Foundation in 2013 to examine women’s coverage access and affordability to care in the US highlighted the dire need for providing access to healthcare for women. The survey found that one in four women had foregone healthcare due to high cost; nearly three in 10 women faced a difficulty in paying their medical bills; a quarter of women surveyed complained that they were not able to take time off to get their care; and one in five women between the ages of 18 and 64 were uninsured. The gap was wider in the case of Hispanics and women of color with nearly 22% black women and 36% of Hispanic women uninsured, the study claimed. In 2016, in the US, about 11 million women in the age group 18-64 had no health coverage.
