About Adidas

The story of Adidas began in Bavaria, Germany, in the 1920s. Adolf “Adi” Dassler (Adolf) and his brother Rudolf Dassler (Rudolf) established Gebrüder Dassler Schuhfabrik (Dassler Brothers Shoe Factory) in 1924 with the aim of offering athletes the best equipment possible. But personal and professional disputes cropped up between the brothers in the aftermath of World War II, and they went their separate ways, forming different companies. After parting ways, Rudolf founded a company named Puma, in 1948. Adolf founded Adidas in 1949. The name “Adidas” was a portmanteau of Adolf’s nickname, Adi, and the first three letters of his last name..
