Zomato was founded by Goyal and Pankaj Chaddah, two IIT Delhi graduates who had worked together at Bain & Company. While working there, they observed that their colleagues referring to a restaurant menu card to order food. Goyal then got the idea for an online restaurant information service and thus the website foodiebay.com was launched in 2008.
